Princess Cruises (‘Princess’) are a cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation & PLC. Presently they have 18 cruise ships in their fleet. As of 2018 it is the second largest cruise line by net revenue.

The breach had been identified in May 2019 when they had noticed suspicious activity on their network. Princess made an announcement on their website to make the public aware of the potential breach. The incident involved unauthorised access to Princess employees email accounts in the period 11th April to the 23rd of July 2019. Princess have said that the data that was accessed could potentially comprise the name, address, social security number, passport number, driver’s license number, credit cards and financial account information. The data leak was not specific to each guest. At this time there is no evidence that the data has been misused. To solve this breach Princess have not only done their own investigation but they have also reported it to the ICO and to the authorities. Princess are not reviewing their security policies and making changes to improve their data security. Princess have said “we take privacy and security of personal information very seriously.”
